how do i deal with depression when i have no real issues?
overall ive had a very stresful life but things are significantly better than they were. to be honest i have no real reason to be depressed. i just got a raise at work,i have a wonderful boyfriend, and money is rarely a worry anymore, but despite all these great things im pretty depressed and cannot pinpoint why.
i dont know how to deal with it at all. its bad particularly at night. ill have manic episodes of extreme irritability, nearing rage. it feels like my fuse is extremely short.
i do not want to go on antidepressants and i dont have time for a therapist. antidepressants in the past have made me suicidal, gain weight and lose my sex drive. i dont want to put anymore of that junk in my body. what can i do? its hard to talk to the bf about it because he has never battled depression.
One of the easiest and most effective ways to change your mood is to stop thinking about the things that put you in the undesired mood.
You can learn to “catch yourself” thinking about things that will only upset you, and say “no” to youself.
Things that you might consider eliminating are past unpleasant situations (whether resolved or not), or even just thinking about being depressed all the time.
If there’s something unpleasant that you have to attend to, think about it only enough to resolve it one way or another. Don’t dwell on it.
If you get good at changing what you think about in this way, you will notice that your mood will improve considerably, and you won’t need medication or talk therapy.
I’m sure you can do it. Don’t give up!
