One of our most popular selling items is faux wood plantation shutters.  Since we are located in the Midwest, we hear from our customers that these window coverings make their home feel much warmer during the winter time and provide a vacation feel in the summer.

Not only do these wood shutters add a certain level of island style, but also provide a durable window covering that can block out up to 97% direct sunlight.  Our selection is provided from 6 manufacturers and all are constructed of either maple or oak and can be finished in up to 340 different colors and stains.  This makes them easily washable, with no risk of damage from the use of strong detergents.  We recommend a wood cleaner like wood shutter agent.

Now we also carry faux wood plantation shutters which are not actually made of wood but rather are made from environmentally friendly fibers.  We chose these faux wood blinds because they are much more durable than the plastic faux wood blinds and they are safe for our planet.

The only drawback is that our faux wood blinds are a bit more expensive than their plastic counterparts by roughly 7%.  So if you find plastic wood blinds for say $20.00, then you can expect to pay about $21.40 for our environmentally friendly version.  We think this is a small price to pay for having a better window blind.  Our faux plantation shutters are also utilize full vertical slat slide instead of the cheaper half slat sliders.  This allows for 10% more light to be blocked out during extremely sunny days.

You know what happens when your windows are blocking out more sunlight right?  Well, that means lower energy bills during the summer.  In fact, our testing shows that if you can block out 97% direct sunlight from one single south facing window sized 38” x 57”, you can cut up to 4% of your cooling bill. Now this may not sound like much, but remember this is only from one single window with our shutters installed.  If you have an entire wall of windows facing the south, it’s wise to consider these shutters for a major savings in cooling your home.
